    Award Descriptions

    The Bowl of Hygeia Award 

    Award Description

    The Bowl of Hygeia Award recognizes an exemplary pharmacist who has made outstanding contributions in the area of community service. Sponsored by the American Pharmacists Association Foundation and the National Alliance of State Pharmacy Associations, the award is granted annually to a pharmacist in each state, and recipients are selected through their respective professional pharmacy associations. The Bowl of Hygeia Award is the most widely recognized international symbol for the pharmacy profession and is considered its most prestigious award. Recipients must demonstrate a sustained commitment to community service, apart from his/her specific identification as a
    pharmacist, which reflects well on the profession of pharmacy.

    Selection Criteria
    Nominees must meet all of the following criteria:
    •  The nominee must be a pharmacist and licensed in Kansas.
    •  The nominee must be living. This award is not presented posthumously.
    •  The nominee has not previously received this award.
    •  The nominee is not currently serving, nor has served within the immediate past two years, on the awards committee or as an officer of the Kansas Pharmacists Association in other than an ex officio capacity.
    •  The nominee has compiled an outstanding record of community service which, apart from his/her specific identification as a pharmacist, reflects well on the profession.
    Excellence in Innovation Award

    Award Description

    The Excellence in Innovation Award (formerly known as the Innovative Pharmacy Practice Award), a national award
    sponsored by Upsher-Smith Laboratories, is granted to recognize and honor a practicing pharmacist who has demonstrated significant innovation in his/her respective practice, which has resulted in improved patient care.

    Nominations may be submitted by pharmacists throughout Kansas, wholesaler pharmacy organizations and schools of
    pharmacy, including faculty and students. The nomination must include a complete description of the pharmacist's practice with an explanation of how the practice has improved patient care. Testimonials may be submitted.


    Selection Criteria
    Nominees must meet all the following criteria:
    •  The nominee must be licensed to practice pharmacy in Kansas.
    •  The nominee must be a member of the Kansas Pharmacists Association.
    •  The nominee must be actively practicing pharmacy at the time of nomination.
    Distinguished Young Pharmacist of the Year Award

    Award Description

    Pharmacists Mutual continues to award the Distinguished Young Pharmacist Award. This award was designed to acknowledge young pharmacists in each state for individual excellence and outstanding contribution to their pharmacy association and community.

    Selection Criteria
    Nominees must meet all of the following criteria:
    •  The nominee must have his/her entry degree in pharmacy received less than 10 years ago (2002 graduation
    • date or later).
    •  The nominee must be a pharmacist licensed to practice in Kansas.
    •  The nominee must be a member of the Kansas Pharmacists Association.
    •  The nominee must be practicing retail, hospital or consulting pharmacy in 2012.
    •  The nominee must be participating in state or national pharmacy associations, professional programs, state
    • association activities and/or community service.
